Entry Requirements

Focus Awards sets a minimum age of 16 and does not specify other universal entry requirements; centres may apply additional admission criteria.

Because this is an occupational qualification, SJA applicants must be working in, or have reliable access to, a suitable adult care environment where they can demonstrate the required practical competence and generate authentic workplace evidence.

Learners should have sufficient written and spoken English to complete Level 4 written work, professional discussions and workplace evidence. SJA may use initial assessment and suitability checks before enrolment.

Practical and Workplace Requirements

This is not an assignment-only course. Many assessment criteria require learners to demonstrate competence in real adult care practice.

You will need suitable workplace access for assessor observation, professional records, witness testimony and other authentic evidence. Evidence must relate to your own role and responsibilities and must meet the requirements of the selected units.

How You Will Be Assessed

The qualification is internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence. Evidence may include assessor observation, witness testimony, learner products, worksheets, assignments, projects, reports, oral or written questioning, learner and peer reports, and recognition of prior learning where appropriate.

Your assessor will review evidence against the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Practical competence must be demonstrated where required by the qualification.
