Entry Requirements

Minimum age: SJA requires learners to be aged 18 or over for this qualification.

Experience: Focus Awards does not set additional universal entry qualifications, but this programme is designed for practitioners already working in the care sector and taking on additional responsibilities.

Workplace access: Learners should have access to a suitable care environment so they can generate authentic evidence where assessment criteria require workplace application.

English language requirement: Learners should have English skills equivalent to Functional Skills English Level 2, GCSE English Grade 4/C or above, or an equivalent standard.

Applicants without a formal English qualification may demonstrate proficiency through an SJA initial assessment. A successfully completed Level 3 or higher qualification taught and assessed in English may also be accepted as evidence, subject to SJA verification.

Workplace and Practical Evidence Requirements

This is an occupational qualification, so some evidence should come from genuine care-sector practice.

Learners should have access to a suitable workplace where they can demonstrate relevant responsibilities such as team working, conflict management, information handling, administration, professional development or supporting change.

Evidence may include assessor observation, witness testimony, workplace products, professional discussion and other authentic records. SJA will confirm suitability of workplace access before enrolment where required.

How You Will Be Assessed

The qualification is internally assessed through a portfolio of evidence covering all learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

Evidence may include assessor observation, witness testimony, learner products, worksheets, assignments, projects, reports, oral and written questioning, learner or peer reports and Recognition of Prior Learning where appropriate.

There is no final written examination specified in the qualification. Assessment focuses on demonstrating the required knowledge and, where applicable, practical competence.
