Put Your English Knowledge into Practice

Analysing English for literacy and language teaching means looking at how words and sentences shape meaning. You might compare a formal report with a friendly email. Explain how each writer adapts their language for the audience and purpose. Use clear examples to support your points.

Is This the Right English Course for You?

Use this award to build your English knowledge for work in education. It is not a Functional Skills English award. If you need a course for a job or college place, check what they accept. Ask for the exact name and level before you enrol.

You can start without teaching experience. You need to read, discuss ideas and write at Level 3. Ask our team if you need help or are unsure about the course level. We can explain the tasks before you enrol.

English subject knowledge and professional development

This award can support your English subject knowledge and further teacher training. If you intend to use it for QTLS or another professional status, confirm the current requirements with the relevant professional body before enrolling. Completing this award does not automatically confer teaching status.

Choosing a Level 3 English Qualification

This Level 3 English qualification develops subject knowledge and communication skills through the Award in English for Literacy and Language Teaching. It covers reading, writing, speaking and listening in the contexts described by the qualification units. It may support your development for literacy and language support or further teacher training.

What Is Level 3 English Equivalent To?

A qualification level describes the difficulty of learning. It does not make this 12-credit award identical to a full A level, a GCSE or a Functional Skills qualification. Check the exact award title and qualification number against the entry requirements of your employer or progression provider. This subject award is also distinct from a full teaching qualification and does not automatically award QTLS.

If you need to develop both subjects, compare the Level 3 Mathematics for Numeracy Teaching award and its assessment requirements.
