Unit 1 Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
This knowledge-based unit develops your understanding of assessment principles and practices, including assessment methods, planning, learner involvement, assessment decisions, quality assurance, information management and relevant legal and good-practice requirements.

Unit 2 Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
This practical competence unit requires you to demonstrate your ability to assess occupational competence through genuine workplace assessment activities.
You will complete the applicable workplace assessment requirements with your 2 real learners/candidates, including planning appropriate assessment methods, designing and administering assessment activities, collecting evidence, making assessment decisions, providing constructive feedback and maintaining appropriate records.
Unit 3 Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
This practical competence unit requires you to demonstrate your ability to assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding.
As part of SJA’s assessment plan, you will design 2 assessments using 4 different assessment methods from those specified within the qualification unit and complete the required assessment activities with your real learners/candidates.
A detailed assessment plan covering both practical units will be available in your LMS when you start the course.
Entry Requirements
Before enrolling on this Level 3 assessor qualification, you should ensure that you can meet both the knowledge and practical assessment requirements.
You should:
- Normally be 19 years or older.
- Have appropriate occupational or subject knowledge relevant to the area in which you intend to assess.

How You Will Be Assessed
Build a Portfolio of Real Assessment Evidence
Throughout the qualification, you will compile evidence demonstrating your knowledge and practical assessor competence. Depending on the applicable assessment requirements, your portfolio may include written assignments, assessment plans, observation records, assessment materials, learner evidence, assessment decisions, feedback records, witness evidence and reflective accounts.
There are no traditional final examinations.

Certification & Recognition
On successful completion of all required units and assessments, and once your assessor has confirmed that you have met the required assessment criteria, your achievement will proceed through the required quality assurance and certification process.
Your assessor’s confirmation of completion is followed by Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) and, where applicable, External Quality Assurance (EQA) and awarding organisation approval. If additional evidence, clarification or amendments are requested during the quality assurance process, you will be required to provide the necessary evidence before your achievement can be finalised for certification.
The certification process normally takes approximately 3–5 weeks following formal completion and assessor confirmation, subject to successful completion of the required quality assurance and awarding organisation processes. This timeframe should be treated as an estimate rather than a guaranteed certification date.
Once certification has been completed, you will receive an electronic certificate (e-certificate) confirming your achievement of the Focus Awards Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF).
If you require a printed certificate, this can be requested for an additional £7 administration fee, plus the applicable postage or courier cost. Postal charges are payable by the learner for both UK and international delivery and will depend on the delivery destination.
