Workplace Assessors
For individuals responsible for assessing learners or employees carrying out occupational tasks in their normal working environment.
The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is a workplace assessor qualification, often called ACWE. Study assessment principles online with tutor support, then assess real occupational tasks with two learners in their workplace. Build a portfolio of plans, evidence, decisions and feedback. This route suits workplace assessment; choose CAVA if you also need to assess vocational skills outside the workplace.

The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment prepares you to assess people doing real tasks at work. It is also known as the ACWE assessor course.
You study assessment principles and put them into practice. Learn how to plan assessments, review evidence and decide whether a learner has met the required standard.
You will learn to:
Written assignments cover the knowledge unit. For the practical unit, you must assess 2 real learners in a suitable workplace. Written work alone is not enough. Simulation is not permitted.
This workplace assessor course links assessment theory to real work. For example, you might observe a learner completing a job task, review the work they produce and ask questions about their decisions. Choose methods that fit the unit rules and your learners’ needs.
To successfully complete the award, you must meet the criteria for both units. Your portfolio records how you planned and carried out assessments in the workplace. It also shows your decisions, feedback and handling of learner evidence.
Choose ACWE when you need to assess occupational competence in a learner’s real workplace. For example, you might observe a care worker completing an agreed job task, review their records and ask questions to check understanding. Assessment must follow the relevant standards and protect confidential information.
AVRA covers vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in a classroom, workshop or training centre. CAVA combines both assessment contexts. If your role covers workplace and training-room assessment, compare the full certificate before choosing.
Before enrolling, agree access to two suitable learners, their work activities and the records needed for your portfolio. Check that you can plan assessments, observe genuine performance, make decisions and give feedback. Online learning supports study; it does not replace workplace practice.
